This full-year course traces the gains and struggles of our unique American contribution to political order and principles. Students will dive into events and primary texts, while learning how to apply a variety of historical lenses in interpreting history: political, economic, social, cultural and intellectual. Lively discussion, debate, role-play and seminar presentations enable students to delve into these eras at a deep level. Students will learn how to do the work of historians by decoding primary sources, developing substantiated arguments, and writing solid historical essays. Understanding the foundational principles and structure of American government and economics forms an integral part of this course.

US History II: 1865-present follows in the second year, along with a directed research paper project.
