CONCEPT: Explore a wide variety of art techniques over the course of 12 weeks! Get an overview of several art mediums, including charcoal, painting, color pencil, and collage.
LEVEL: 11-12 year olds
DAY ONE:
- Introduction
- Talk about different art forms, techniques, and styles
- Start a pencil & charcoal project: Learn about shading and value, by starting with some basic shapes such as cubes and spheres.
- If there is time, we will move onto shaded drawings of more complex 3-dimensional objects.
DAY TWO:
- We will continue the exploration of shading with a more complex charcoal drawing. The students will focus on observation skills as they work from mini still-lifes.
DAY THREE:
- We will begin to explore color through the medium of colored pencil. The students will be work with reference materials (ex: bird books, nature magazines, photographs of animals or flowers) to create a colored pencil drawing.
DAY FOUR:
- Continue colored pencil drawings.
DAY FIVE:
- Our exploration of color will continue as the students begin an acrylic painting. The focus will be on observation, drawing from life, shading, and color mixing.
DAY SIX:
- Continue acrylic painting.
DAY SEVEN:
- The students will use papers and various other materials to create a representational collage. (They will be working from real-life subjects.)
DAY EIGHT:
- Continue collages.
- Students will begin an exploration of abstract collage work as well.
DAY NINE:
- Discussion of abstraction and abstract art. Examples of abstract art will be shown.
- Using the medium of their choice, the students will be able to explore abstract art.
DAYs TEN-TWELVE:
- Complete various projects left unfinished; work in "favorite" media of choice. Students/tutor will delve deeper into some areas as they come up through the initial nine weeks, at this time.
