Tim has been fascinated by the way the physical world works all his life. To pass the time on long drives from Delaware to Massachusetts he and his dad would estimate how fast a tire was spinning or how much air was in the car, just for fun. His first career was an obvious choice and he worked in engineering and R&D for many years earning many patents, always exploring more about tangible and intangible aspects of creation. He has been an avid competitive ocean racing sailor, evaluating forces and vector algebra as a pastime.
Starting as a hobby, Tim built and flew a homemade airplane, and in it he visited every state east of the Mississippi. He flew for the Coast Guard for 3 years. Tim’s second career was as pilot–owner of a charter airline company, flying clients from large and small airports all along the east coast. Pilot training and practice is a continued exercise in applications of physics.
During the slower winter flying months he started tutoring high school students in math and physics. He then joined the adjunct faculty in the Mathematics Department of North Shore Community College, and has now taught over 25 classes there over the past 6 years.
A long search for God culminated in acceptance of Jesus as Lord after not only study and a preponderance of evidence, but also in recognition of how He has worked in the hearts of people both long ago and in our time. He strongly holds that one cannot believe in something because you would like to, but only if you are convinced it is the truth.
Tim is married to his wife Jeanne, has four boys age 27 to 35, and has lived in Hamilton since 1997.
Tim has been curious about everything he has been exposed to, actually interested in the “what” and “how” and “why” of nearly everything. He thinks that such curiosity would be helpful for most persons, young and old. Introducing the study of physics as a way to more fully participate in daily life motivates Tim to teach at New Hope. |
