Eric Unsworth is a veteran at the history teaching business. Mr. Unsworth brings 25-plus years in the classroom at Lexington Christian Academy to New Hope Tutorials. With a B.A. in history from Wheaton College in Illinois and an M.A. from Boston College, Eric has taught Ancient History, Geography, American History, and Political Science through the years. His weaving of storytelling and anecdotal touches into classroom teaching has brought history to life for his students over the years.
Eric Unsworth is an avid reader who enjoys all kinds of history; but it is the story of our nation that has occupied his particular attention and interest for over a quarter century in the classroom. He particularly enjoys storytelling through his lectures, presenting history as one grand and exciting story of man's struggles and achievements through the centuries. Personal tidbits about Washington, Adams, Jefferson and Hamilton are sprinkled freely through his course, since it is three-dimensional people who created history and make it come to life. Whenever possible, Eric likes to incorporate Scripture with history to explain God's involvement in men's affairs, and he has a strong desire to present a biblical worldview as he teaches our nation's history.
Eric attends Church of the Redeemer (formerly Christ Church Episcopal), and is active in Alpha ministries. He is married to Nancy, also a former teacher at Lexington Christian Academy, and they have four children, three in college and one still at home. When he's not involved in business or teaching, you are likely to find him at the tennis courts, out kayaking or riding a bicycle into town on the way to the muffin shop. His immersion in history is the most likely explanation for his devotion to the antiquated form of communication called letter writing, his love for using antique fountain pens and nice paper, and the fact that he discovered television only within the last year (it was a surprise and pleasure to receive a compliment from his college age son for raising him without television!).
Eric looks forward to meeting his American history students in the fall to start once again the great adventure of storytelling. |
